Twenty Years of Care, Commitment to Conserving Land
October 7th will mark the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy's 20th birthday. Join us in celebrating two decades of hard work to protect the beautiful places you call home.
We are proud to announce the winner of the 2016 A. Victor Thomas Environmental Stewardship Award as Janet Scheid. We are also honoring the dedication of David Hurt of Franklin County with the Land Saver Award.
A. Victor Thomas Award
On October 9th, we will present Janet Scheid with the A. Victor Thomas Environmental Stewardship Award. Janet was a founding board member of the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy (then the Western Virginia Land Trust). She spearheaded efforts to conserve part of Cahas Mountain as it was up for auction in Franklin County. Janet also served as board President when BRLC became accredited by the Land Trust Alliance. The "Vic Thomas Award" is the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy’s highest and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the preservation of the natural heritage of western Virginia.

Land Saver Award
In addition, David Hurt of Franklin Co will be receiving the Land Saver Award. David was the first project manager for Blue Ridge Land Conservancy, and continued his conservation career with Conservation Partners, LLC, helping protect land across Southside and Southwest Virginia. He now owns and operates Truman Hill Farm, a grass-fed beef operation, on his conserved family farm in Franklin County and works with conservation properties as a Realtor with MKB, Realtors.
